Staying at La Fortonie

  • Things to do: There is a lot to explore and taste, and everyone has their own plans. For fine wine St Emilion is a must. It is twenty minutes away and a very pretty town. There is a chocolate factory also about twenty minutes away. A local wine chateau has a splendid tea room where you sample the wine with your cake or just have a pot of tea.

Markets: most towns and villages have a specific market day. The most well known of these, is St Foy la Grande. A charming town on the banks of the river Dordogne and very bustling on Saturday mornings. Another large market is at Eymet a 40 minute drive on Thursdays. Smaller markets are in the villages like Monsegur and Duras.

Information/Sightseeing: There is plenty to see and do, depending on the time of year. The Tourist offices in all the towns and a lot of the villages are extremely efficient and have a lot of information. The one in Gensac is the nearest and is in the main square. You will find information in our hallway on canoeing, riding, golfing, winetasting, restaurants, gardens open to the public, a local roman villa, concerts and many more activities to be enjoyed such as the water park in Bordeaux, or a trip to the seaside to sample the Atlantic waves or sail on one of the fresh water lakes.

Summary: La Fortonie is primarily our family home, which is enjoyed by everyone who visits-proven by our visitors’ book. It is principally suited to family occupation, hence the games and books belonging to our children, which we hope will be used on the occasional wet day.
